Event: Tour Alpina 2011
Tour Alpina 2011 3rd September 2011
The Tour Alpina is the Supercar event for the driver who loves mountain scenery, empty mountain passes and the view from the top of the world!
Over five days and six nights, this exclusive event follows a spectacular route through the Dolomite Mountains from Salzburg in Austria, via Italy to St Moritz in Switzerland.
Limited to just 25 Supercars, both classic and modern, this exciting trip takes five days and six nights, all at five star hotels.
The Tour Alpina starts on the Saturday 3rd September at the Schloss Fuschl, a legendary castle hotel in an unrivalled location just outside Salzburg. After event registration in the afternoon you will enjoy a champagne reception and welcome dinner before staying the night in the castle. The following morning the cars cross the start line and head south into northern Italy via some stunning roads including the legendary Grossglocknerpasse, which crosses the Grossglockner which at 3,798m is not only the highest mountain in Austria, it also counts among the highest peaks in the Alps.
The pyramid-shaped Grossglockner lies behind the slightly smaller Kleinglockner (3,770 m), separated by a saddle-like formation known as the Glocknerscharte. The pass is not only an awesome 48 kilometre road, but it’s also a private road. You will need to pass through a toll as you enter it and then simply enjoy the sweeping corners and hairpins, along with the breathtaking scenery.
After the Glockner you will cross into Italy and continue on mountain roads to the world famous mountain village of Cortina, where we will stay for three nights. Cortina is situated at the top of the Valle del Boite and is encircled 360° by the Dolomites. Among the more famous mountains are Tofane to the west, Pomagagnon to the north, Cristallo to the northeast, Faloria and Sorapiss to the east, and Becco di Mezzodi, Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri to south.
Over the next three days you will drive some of the amazing passes that criss cross over and around these impressive mountains, with the advantage of spending three nights in the same hotel so avoiding the need to pack and re-pack your bags for a few nights.
After your three nights in Cortina we head north west over more passes and back into Austria where we overnight at Solden, situated in the Ötztal which at 67 kilometers is the longest tributary valley in the Tyrol with over 250 peaks at 3,000 meters or more above sea level, and the Tyrol’s biggest waterfall.
Our fifth and final day driving will be back down the Ötztal and west over the Stelvio pass, tackling it from a different direction to that which the 2009 Tour Alpina took it, and into Switzerland via Livigno, a unique village that enjoys a tax free and dutyfree status.
The justification for such a status is the difficulty in reaching Livigno during winter, however the roads in and out of Livigno make for a perfect drive in the summer months. From here we cross the border into Switzlerand and the end of the Tour Alpina at Badrutts Palace in St Moritz, one of the finest hotels in the world.
A full and detailed route is provided, however following the route does not have to be that simple… if you chose to take on the challenge of solving the cryptic clues that are set along the route for you. This is how The Supercar Club brings a competitive element to the event, although it is entirely optional, and some teams simply enjoy the drive. At regular intervals along the route you will find fun and amusing clues set in historic buildings, or at sites that are worthy of a visit, or perhaps a village square where you might stop for a coffee or some lunch in a Alpine restuarant.
Its worth having a go, not only because its fun but if you do well there are some nice prizes on offer for the winners as well as the Tour Alpina trophy!
You will be accompanied by the Supercar Club team of marshals who are there to help make sure you have a happy holiday and make things run smoothly for you, as well as our technicians, luggage van (so that you can pack what you like and not worry about being short of space in your car) and even a tyre truck which is pre-loaded with tyres for each car on the event.
All maps are provided, along with detailed instructions where necessary, as well as event clothing, the event book in which you will be listed, and a host of other gifts.
Should you wish we can arrange to have your car collected by covered transporter from your home or storage facility and delivered to Salzburg allowing you to simply fly in and enjoy the Tour Alpina. We can also arrange for it to be taken home for you at the end of the event, allowing you to fly home.
Supercar Club events are about having fun, enjoying your car, the people, the scenery, fantastic hotels and the amazing places that we visit.
Please don’t hesitate to call any of the team at the Supercar Club if you would like to discuss a possible entry.
The cost of entry is £7500 per car including six nights accommodation for two people, champagne receptions, drinks parties, dinner every night, the gala dinner in Monte Carlo and a whole lot more.
